Professor. Wendweson Fikire
CEO of SceinceAcadamy
Hello, my name is Wendweson Fikire. I am a Professor of Chemistry at Baltimore City Community College (BCCC) in Maryland. I teach general chemistry courses for science majors and pre-nursing students. Additionally, I facilitate environmental science courses such as Earth Science and Oceanography, along with CHE I and II lab courses. I am also the co-founder of the college’s environmental science club. Recently, I led the development of a new science program called Geoscience at the Applied Associate Science (AAS) level. This program includes lectures and laboratory work, offering students career-focused degree options and a pathway to the workforce. I have completed approximately 27 credits of doctoral-level courses in the community college leadership program at Morgan State University. Additionally, I have participated in various workshops and training sessions on developing student-centered courses, syllabi, and programs.
Diversity of Experiences
I hold two Master’s degrees: an MS in Geochemistry and, more recently, a Master of Divinity (MDIV) focusing on conflict and peace resolution. I have completed approximately 39 credit hours of doctoral-level courses at the International Graduate School of Peace and Public Leadership, located at 4 West 43rd St, New York. I will receive my Doctor of Theology degree on May 26.
I come from a family of Eastern Orthodox Christians, but I consider myself a liberal Christian. I believe in taking the good elements from each faith, as no religion is 100% perfect. I challenge myself by taking courses at HJI (International Graduate School for Peace and Public Leadership). This institution accommodates all faiths, regardless of their doctrinal differences, and aims to find commonality in bringing peace and reconciliation.
I have written 180 pages of an autobiography in my native language, Amharic. The book mainly focuses on my birthplace, Addis Ababa, my experience as a teacher, and other aspects of my life. I plan to translate it into English. Additionally, I am currently writing a general chemistry book to help high school and first-year college students in Ethiopia and nearby regions. I have already completed six chapters and am working on the final chapter of Part I.
Furthermore, I have prepared a modern periodic table for high school and college students.
As a dual citizen of the USA and Ethiopia, I have spent half of my life in the field of education, both in Ethiopia and the USA. This experience has made me increasingly concerned about the differences in academic standards between the American education system and those of other countries, notably my birthplace, Ethiopia, and East Africa.
Education
Additionally, completing my graduate degree in the Czech Republic has provided me with valuable insights into the education systems in Eastern Europe, which differ significantly from those in Africa and the USA. My dream has long been to explore and analyze the variations among education systems worldwide.
I firmly believe that the program I have chosen for comparative study in international education will deepen my understanding and contribute to addressing the gaps in the global education system. I would be immensely grateful for the opportunity to be accepted into this program, as my research-oriented passion and extensive teaching experience at community colleges in the USA and abroad will enable me to make meaningful contributions to my field of study.
